"Please don't touch my hair!" — what many Black women unfortunately have to say when people in public don't respect boundaries. Black women often find themselves having to set boundaries or navigate feelings of discomfort, not wanting to seem rude.

This piece expresses those feelings — "careful," "free," "my hair," "don't touch" — words I've have layered directly into the design the graffiti as expression.

Black women's hair carries deep history. During slavery, braid patterns were sometimes used to map out escape routes or hide rice and seeds, turning hairstyles into acts of survival and resistance. That history lives on in how Black women style, protect, and express themselves through their hair today — it holds confidence and a story that stretches back generations. Touching someone's hair without permission should never be allowed.
